MONTEREY, Calif.- Amid the hard rock, top hits and hip-hop radio stations around the Central Coast, listeners will hear a new Catholic programming station for the first time beginning next month.
Immaculate Heart Radio acquired KNRY AM 1240 and will bring full-time Catholic programming to the Monterey area. Immaculate Heart Radio is a network of 25 stations and translators in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah. KNRY is the 25th station in this network and covers the greater Monterey area, including Carmel, Santa Cruz, Salinas and Hollister. Its broadcasts feature programs that focus on education, current events and family topics from a Catholic perspective.
The acquisition of KNRY, located on historic Cannery Row, is the result of a grassroots effort by hundreds of local people who have worked for more than three years to bring this resource to Monterey, according to a news release.
