UCSC Voted Most Vegan-Friendly College in America

Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif- If you are a vegan and you're looking for a college, the University of California, Santa Cruz might just be for you. The school was recently named the Most Vegan-Friendly College in America by peta2, PETA's youth division.

"UC Santa Cruz is a great example of how more and more schools are meeting the growing demand for vegan meals," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "And as the school's decadent dining options show, not only is vegan eating a great way to help the environment, our health, and animals—it's also delicious."

What makes UCSC vegan popular? It could be their Meatless Monday program or the pro-vegan student group Banana Slugs for Animals. On the UCSC vegan menu are things like stuffed portobello ratatouille, vegan Mexican tofu benedicts, vegan taquitos, and sweet-and-sour seitan.

UC Santa Cruz and Northwestern University, which came out in the small-school division, were chosen the winners based on four factors: the number of votes received, the quality and variety of vegan food, the school's enthusiasm in promoting their options, and student feedback.
