Occupy Wall Street Getting the Boot

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK CITY - Occupy Wall Street protestors got the boot from the Manhattan Park they've camped in for nearly two months.  Just before midnight, police in riot gear ordered all Occupy protesters to move out of Zucotti Park, saying the area is unsafe and unsanitary.

Police say Wall Street Occupiers can return once the park is cleaned, but they will not be able to bring back tents or sleeping bags.  But the Associated Press reports a court order has been issued that will allow protesters to return with personal belongings to Zucotti Park.

Police have made dozens of arrests, among those, a New York City councilman.  Sanitation crews are now cleaning out the park, which makes many neighbors around Zucotti Park, relieved.

New York City officials have tried to clear the park before, but decided against it when it appeared the eviction might turn violent.  As for the protesters, they were planning a demonstration Thursday to mark the two month anniversary of their encampment.  No word on when it will be re-scheduled.
