Grab A Broom and Join Your Local Quidditch Tournament

Posted: Updated:

MARINA, Calif- One local college has stepped in to fill the void if you are having Harry Potter withdrawals now that the popular franchise is over.

CSU Monterey Bay is holding a Quidditch tournament Friday and Saturday. Quidditch is a sport that is normally played by wizards flying around on brooms but in the Muggle world there are a few different rules.

• Instead of flying on broomsticks, muggle players must hold broomsticks between their legs while running on the field.

• Players score goals by throwing quaffles (volleyballs) through hoops mounted on stands. A goal is worth one point.

• Players throw bludgers (dodgeballs) at one another. If hit by a bludger, a player must drop whatever ball he is carrying and run back to his own goal hoops. Another player can then pick up the ball he dropped.

• Instead of a golden flying ball, the snitch is a person dressed in gold who runs around the Quidditch field. A sock with a tennis ball in it is tucked into the snitch's waistband.

• The game ends when a player catches the snitch by grabbing the sock. Catching the snitch is worth 30 points.
