Occupy Santa Cruz Wants City to Suspend Camping Ban

Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif- In response to what they are calling the "egregious police violence against peaceful protesters in Oakland" Occupy Santa Cruz is calling on city council members to suspend enforcement of the camping ban.

The group says that they sent a letter to Santa Cruz City Council Members Don Lane and Tony Madrigal. "We ask that you, either jointly or individually, call for an emergency session of the City Council. Secondly, we request that you again, either jointly or individually, put forth a motion to suspend enforcement of the city's camping ordinance indefinitely," wrote Steve Pleich, with the Legal Strategy and Defense Working Group for Occupy Santa Cruz.

Members of Occupy Santa Cruz first met on October 4 in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street. They say that they have been occupying the area near the Santa Cruz County Superior Courthouse non-stop since October 8th.
