SAND CITY, Calif--
Rabbit Rescue is trying to get the furry creatures adopted because local shelters don't have room.
The adoption event took place at the Petsmart in Sand City, Sunday.
Organizers said the Salinas city shelter recently contacted them about 11 rabbits dumped in a neighborhood, but the shelter couldn't take in that many pets.
They're hoping to get these pets adopted or into foster homes as soon as possible.
"I have a lot of foster families right now but they're all overloaded with like four or five rabbits," said Lisa Redmond, Animal Friends Rescue Project, Rabbit Rescue Program Coordinator. "We're trying to get more people just to take one or two. It makes a huge difference."
Animal Friends Rescue Project in a non-profit organization. The Rabbit Rescue Program is made up of volunteers which rescue rabbits from local shelters so they're not euthanized.
The group holds adoption shows at Petsmart in Sand City and Petco in Monterey monthly.
