Natalie Orfalea is a Mom on a Mission!

Posted: Updated:

SANTA BARBARA - Paul Orfalea started Kinkos.

When Natalie Orfalea went to school with her son, she helped start a school food reform movement.

Natalie Orfalea is a mom on a mission.  Her children are grown so she is reaching out to yours.

She was horrified at the lunch menu.  Most students got a bag of chips and a soda.

Children know burritos, but Natalie met a child who had never seen broccoli.

She created the s'Cool Food Initiative.

Over the past five years, Natalie worked to put real, organic, locally grown food in the hands and hearts of students.

She made sure salad bars rolled into schools up and down the Central Coast.

Natalie helped plant the seed for organic school gardens in almost 30 local schools.  She helped grant wishes with generous infrastructure grants to remodel school kitchens.  The s'Cool Food Initiative funded Culinary Boot Camps to give food service workers tools and training.

Natalie Orfalea has a lot on her plate, she also works to strengthen disaster preparedness, boost preschool programs, fund outdoor classrooms, and give scholarships.  She travels the world volunteering to help children and just returned from Ecuador.

The family that made their fortune copying things hopes the s'Cool Food Initiative will be duplicated in schools throughout the nation!

Watch Jennifer Mandulay every Wednesday night at 5 for another edition of s'Cool Food.
