Q: Why is MST Running Small Buses on Line 25?

Posted: Updated:

A: Our KION Question came from Paul in Salinas.  He asked us, "Why is MST (Monterey Salinas Transit) running small shuttle buses on Line 25?" Paul said the route is constantly overcrowded with people standing up.

According to MST, the bus size (large vs. small) is based on customer demand and the availability of the buses.  MST told Central Coast News it has a limited amount of large 40 foot (or larger) buses.

Line 25 runs from Salinas to California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) in Marina.  MST said it's a fairly new route and it doesn't demand the large buses.  Instead, MST uses a 17 passenger vehicle for Line 25.

The larger buses are used on the busiest routes.  MST said those busy routes are usually through East Salinas and Fremont Boulevard through Seaside.
