Q: Can We Vote To Stop Salinas Airshow?

Posted: Updated:

A: Patty from Salinas wrote in and said she doesn't like the noise the California International Airshow Salinas creates evey year. She said it scares babies, pets and keeps many working people awake during the day. She also said, people who live near the Salinas Airport should have a right to vote it away.

Patty asked, "Can the Salinas Airshow be categorized as disturbing the peace?"

Salinas Airshow organizers said some of the military jets do make more noise than what you normally hear, but the airshow is a community event that happens only once a year. Officials said it is a community event that raises money for local charities. For 31 years, the Salinas Airshow has raised $7.2 million through ticket sales and concessions. The money goes to hundreds of non-profit organizations on the Central Coast.

The Salinas airshow says a lot of people enjoy the sound of the military jets, but also the airshow is well advertised so community members know when it is coming and can be prepared.
