Q: Why Do Spanish Classes Cost More Than English Classes?

Posted: Updated:

A: Our KION Question came from Suzanne in Salinas.

"The Salinas Adult School is offering Spanish classes at $150, but they offer English classes for spanish speakers at $30. Why is that?," asked Suzanne.  She also said, "It is so unfair... We live in the USA & have to learn spanish at such a steep cost."

According to the Salinas Adult School (part of the Salinas Union High School District), the "Spanish for Professionals" course is not classified as a core program.  The core programs are supported by adult education funding.

Officials at the Salinas Adult School said the higher fee ($150) for a Spanish Course is to off-set the expense, paying the instructor and materials for the course.
