A: David from Carmel Valley asked us about Salinas' Bolsa Knolls Middle School saying "why does Bolsa Knolls on Rogge Road still not have a School Cross Walk in front of it?"
According to the Santa Rita Union School District superintendent, it is currently working on a plan that includes a crosswalk. The crosswalk is part of a broader project with Monterey County of putting in no parking signs, a left turn lane, and the widening of Rogge Road. The school can not proceed with any part of the project without approval from the county. The county will also not approve the painting of a crosswalk without the complete plan in place, which is in the works to figure out the scope of the project and the cost for the widening of Roggee Road.
The superintendent said a consultant and the district is meeting with the county next week, Aug. 23. The widening was not part of the project until the district's engineer worked on the plan with the county for a left-turn lane, the no parking, and the crosswalk on the street. The engineer and the school's facility consultant is now working on the scope of work and cost for the widening of Roggee Road. Once that is complete hopefully the county will approve a plan and the plan will be implemented with the crosswalk.
