Dropout Rates Released for Local High Schools

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif- The state says that they have a new way of calculating dropout and graduation rates and Thursday they released numbers for the 2009-2010 school year.

According to the Department of Education Monterey County has a 72% graduation rate.

The new formula for calculating graduation rates does not include five-year seniors or people who have gotten their General Education Development (GED) diplomas. The office of education says that with this new formula counties around the state have seen an average of a 4.8 % decline in graduation rates.
