A: Our KION Question came from Melissa in Salinas. She asked us, "Why do high schools in Salinas have no uniform policy, while middle schools and elementary schools do?"
Central Coast News got the response to this question from Tim Vanoli, Associate Superintendent of Instructional Services at the Salinas Union High School District.
Vanoli said:
The Salinas Union High School District has differentiated between middle school students and high school students based on (the following):
Students in the middle schools have a uniform policy and high school students have a dress code. These are monitored at the schools sites with student safety being at the center for both groups of students.
Vanoli said, "This concept works for the age appropriateness of middle and high school students."
