MONTEREY,Calif- A new high tech tool is moving across the Monterey Bay capturing video footage of never before seen seafloor landscape. It's a High Definition camcorder that attaches to a remote operated vehicle (ROV). The camera combs the deep sea at depths of 1,500 feet. It vividly shows fish, corals, crabs and other seafloor habitat. It provides researchers with valuable information and images of the Monterey Bay. The camera, for the first time allows humans to see a deep sea landscape that hasn't been visual until now.
The H-D camera is owned by the non-profit group Oceana. Their overall goal with the camera is to convince policymakers to help protect precious marine life. Oceana will continue capturing footage on the Central Coast, Pacific Northwest and Mexico.
The organization will assemble a documentary to show at local events and around the U.S
