Sergeant Suing Monterey County Sheriff Gets Moved

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif.- More twists and turns in the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, after investigators arrested the sheriff's son.

The Sheriff's Office transferred the sergeant who is suing Scott Miller for misconduct to a different division.

Central Coast News  first learned about this on Friday and spent the past few days talking to attorney's representing Sergeant Archie Warren and trying to talk to Sheriff Miller.

The Deputy Sheriff's Association told me Sgt. Archie Warren was transferred on Friday, out of the narcotic's unit and into the coroner division.   The union admitted it's a lateral move, not a demotion.

But they are not happy about it, attorney's representing Warren and the union said "First, the in-house investigation of a routine narcotics arrest.  Then, the search of Warren's office safe was a violation of peace officer bill of rights.  Now, the transfer.   A clear pattern of improper action is starting emerge."

Again, this all started after the narcotics team arrested Miller's son late last month and allegations Miller broke the law by warning his wife the team was on the way.

We asked Sheriff Miller about the transfer Friday and Monday.

He wouldn't talk about it and told us to call the attorney representing the county in the lawsuit.

When we called the attorney, he said he didn't work for us and he wouldn't call to find out about the transfer.

The Sheriff's Office attorney said even if he did know about the transfer he wouldn't be able to give a reason because that is protected by personnel state laws.
