Q: What is Imjin Parkway Named After?

Posted: Updated:

A: This KION Question came from Lillian in Carmel.  She asked us, "What is Imjin Parkway named after?"  Imjin Parkway (also Imjin Road) runs through Marina and the former Fort Ord.

Here's the answer from the Fort Ord Reuse Authority (FORA):

Most of the street names on the former Fort Ord have military significance.  They may be named after famous Generals (Patton, Stillwell, Gigling), infantry divisions, or battles.

The name Imjin was derived from the Imjin River, which flows from North Korea to South Korea.  During the Korean War, a significant battle was fought along the Imjin River, hence its use as a street name here.

As the base gets developed, FORA says most of the jurisdictions and developers are opting to keep the historic names.
