Bryan Stow's Kids Speak to Central Coast News

Posted: Updated:

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. - For the first time, beaten Giants fan Bryan Stow's children speak up about the tragedy and how they're coping.

You can tell how much 12-year-old Tyler Stow loves his dad. He proudly showed this picture of when he was a baby wearing his dad's old helmet. He considers his dad his best friend and hero.

"I spent a lot of time with him, every weekend," says Tyler Stow. "So it's really tough."

That included trips, bike rides and going to Giants games. But now, Tyler realizes life with dad isn't the same.

"He was pretty special," says Tyler Stow. "He did special things for us."

The hardest part is seeing his dad in a coma at San Francisco General Hospital after two Dodgers fans brutally attacked him. The beating happened almost three months ago.

Tyler said words can't express how much he misses his dad, but he accepts what happened. His 8-year-old sister Tabitha, a little shy, is the same way.

"He's really special," says Tabitha Stow. "He's not like any other dad. It feels weird not having him stay by your side."

The family is staying strong with the support of other family members, friends, community members and even complete strangers. Also the Giants have helped, as shown in an autographed picture with Jeremy Affeldt and Tim Lincecum with the kids.

On past Father's Days, Tyler and Tabitha went to Giants games with their dad. This year, they plan to make it extra special by making a photo collage for his hospital room. While Tyler said there's so much he wants to say, one thing is loud and clear even without words.

"That I love him and miss him," says Tyler Stow.
