Posted: Updated:

GREENFIELD, Calif- Blocked off streets and cones being set up by crews was an unusual sight for Greenfield residents but they're happy their small town is getting positive attention.

With cow bells ringing and a police escort, the Amgen Tour of California made it's way through Greenfield for the first time. More than a hundred fans lined the race route in the small city in south Monterey County.

"It's something that doesn't happen every day so for them to see them cross through here, it's exciting. It's like watching the olympics," said Greenfield resident Rosanna Betancourt.

Cyclists came and went in a matter of minutes, but the people that saw it called it a memory that will last a lifetime.

"Adventure, and it was a thrill for Greenfield. Now it's gone and it was like a dream. I loved it." Residents like Inocencio Martinez, hope today's race is the start of a bright future for the city.

"This Greenfield needs something recognized and I think by having all these things that come through here, it will get recognized and it is a positive thing for everybody here," said Betancourt.
