Social Worker Was in Sexual Treatment Rehab Facility

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif- A social worker caught with hundreds of pictures of child porn is now in a sex rehab facility.

In court today, Gregory Winsell's attorney said he sent him to a treatment center called Michael's House in Palm Springs.

Michael Pekin said all treatment centers in Monterey County are full and Winsell was suicidal before deputies arrested him this month in Carmel Valley.

We checked with several treatment centers like Sun Street Centers who said they have space available for drug and alcohol addicts.

Assistant District Attorney Rolando Mazariegos said what makes Michael's House different is it also treats sexual addictions. In court today, Pekin said Winsell is spending 45 days there and that's why he wasn't in court on Tuesday.

We asked Sun Street Centers how these drug and alcohol treatment centers work and if forty five days is enough

"We're breaking a physiological dependency in maybe the first two to three weeks sometimes 30 days," Nellis Gilchrist spent the past 20 years working in treatment centers. She said every case is different but it takes a long time to fix a lifetime addiction.

"Then we expect to change a psychological response to a life long problem in a shorter period of time. it really isn't enough," said Gilchrist.
