SALINAS, Calif- Aaron Corn, a Pacific Grove teenager, was sentenced to 7 years and 4 months in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol causing injuries and taking a motor vehicle without permission.
In February of 2010 Corn severely injured two of his passengers, including putting Chelsie Hill in a wheelchair.
Judge Russell Scott imposed the sentence after hearing impassioned pleas from Hill, her father and the parents who owned the home where the party had taken place.
"When I went to visit him in jail, I was at a loss for words. It was so hard to see one of my friends behind glass and I know it was just as hard for Aaron as it was for me," said Hill.
Aaron Corn told the judge he can't put in to words the remorse and regret he feels,"Not a day goes by that I am not sick to my stomach and feel terrible for what I did."
Hill has continued her efforts to raise awareness on the consequences of driving under the influence and had requested, along with Corn's attorney, for the defendant to be placed on felony probation.
However, the judge decided to sentence Corn to prison based on what the Probation Department described as his deplorable track record on probation. Back in December of 2009, Corn was the passenger in another drunk driving incident. The driver took the car they were in down a cliff in Pebble Beach, both teens left the scene of the accident.
Corn will be elegible for parole after serving 85% of his sentence.
