PASO ROBLES -We're learning more about the routes cyclists will take during this year's Amgen Tour of California. The race starts Sunday, May 15th in South Lake Tahoe. Four days later, Stage 5 will bring the cyclists to the Central Coast.
Stage 5 starts in Seaside and cyclist will take Highway 1 through Monterey, Carmel, and Big Sur. Once they enter San Luis Obispo County, they'll pass Hearst Castle, roll through Cambria, then up the narrow and twisting Santa Rosa Creek Road, into Paso Robles.
As many as 20,000 people are expected to watch the cyclists cross the Stage 5 finish line at the Downtown City Park.
After skipping the Santa Ynez Valley last year, the Stage 6 Time Trials return to Solvang this year on Friday, May 20th. Cyclists will start in front of Solvang Park on Mission Drive and head to Los Olivos. The ride back to Solvang will include a short, but steep, climb up Ballard Canyon.
They'll end on Copenhagen Drive.
