Pacific Grove Teen Stands For First Time Since DUI Accident

Posted: Updated:

Ever since she was injured in a drunk driving accident we have been used to seeing Chelsie Hill in a wheelchair or sitting down.

After six months of hard work, sweat, and tears Chelsie can do what some doctors called impossible, stand-up.

"I pulled myself up with my arms and I stood there and I locked my hips forward and I took one hand off the bar and then the other and then she said now try taking both your hands off," said Chelsie.

Wendy Hill, Chelsie's mom, watched with tears in her eyes and pride in her heart as her daughter's hard work finally paid off. " It kind of took me back to the hospital when the doctors said this wasn't going to happen and that her chair was going to be her life,"said Wendy.

Chelsie never believed what the doctors told her after the accident. The 18 year-old is always smiling, it doesn't matter if she's struggling to move her body just a few inches or if she's talking about her days on the Pacific Grove dance team.

Chelsie spends about 20 hours a week in the gym and she truly believes her hard work and positive outlook will have her dancing again. "Now that I can see miracles I believe that I can do it and I believe that I will walk again," said Chelsie.

She can't stand all by herself yet, her trainer helps keep her knees locked, but she is slowly chipping away at everyone's doubt that she will ever walk again.
