Monterey Extends Temporary Ban On Pot Clubs

Posted: Updated:

MONTEREY, Calif. - Tuesday night, the Monterey City Council voted to extend a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries.  Usually people tell city council what they think of an idea, but council members told people what they think about having pot clubs in the city.  Council had mixed reactions on the issue but decided they need more time to make a decision.  Council members want to study the impact in having a dispensary in town.  So they approved a yearlong moratorium.  The controversy started after My Caregiver cooperative opened late last year.  Tonight it's director told Central Coast News he's happy council is considering plans to work with them.  Council's biggest concern is how they would regulate dispensaries in the city.  We will continue to follow the city and update you with council's decisions.
