Seaside Football Game Moved, Fear of Gang Retaliation

Update: North Salinas went on to beat Seaside 48 to 41. The game started at 4 p.m. and as of 11:00 p.m. police have reported no major gang activity.

SEASIDE, Calif-  There has been a change in the Friday football schedule for N. Salinas vs. Seaside and some team parents are concerned.

The Seaside JV football game was canceled and the varsity football game was moved to 4 p.m.

Parents received an automated message from Seaside Principal Syd Renwyck letting parents know the changes were taking place as a "precautionary measure".

Principal Renwyck said in a phone conversation to KION that the time changes for the game occurred due to recent activity in the City of Seaside.

Last week, 23 year-old Troy Hill of Salinas was shot and killed while he was in Seaside. According to the Gang Task Force they received an anonymous tip stating that there would be a retaliation at the Seaside vs. North Salinas football game.

Central Coast News Reporter, Brooke Holmquist, spoke with Seaside Police. Police tell her that the high school will be conducting bag searches and everyone going to the game will also have to go through metal detectors.

The Gang Task Force, as well as the Seaside police, will have patrols in the area.
