MONTEREY, Calif. - In conjunction with the eighth anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, a Central Coast group held a drive on Monterey's Window on the Bay to collect items for overseas troops.
The non-profit group Warriors Heart, Inc. has made it a mission to send a shipment of cards and packages of cocoa to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their efforts began in 2003 with just holiday shipments, but have since grown to sending care packages every month.
"We want to make their day over there a little bit more connected to the state-side," said one volunteer.
As of 2008, the group says it's collected some eight tons of goods to be sent to troops.
