Soledad Winery the Focus of Gloria Fire Investigation

Posted: Updated:

Soledad, Calif- Cal Fire is now focusing on a vineyard in Soledad owned by Constellation Wines U.S. where they say the fire started. As we told you hours after the Gloria fire started, investigator Cliff Williams says agriculture fireworks often called bird bombs sparked the flames. "I started looking around I'm looking for anything I can see anything that's unusual anything out of place and I immediately spotted the fragments from this particular bird bomb," said Williams.

The estimated cost of fighting the flames that engulfed more than 6,000 acres is $4 million. Cal Fire is still deciding who will foot the bill. Estancia Estates Winery is a part of Constellations Wines U. S. They told us they will continue working with investigators and fire officials as they asses the cause of the fire. The next step for investigators, "Now it's going to be follow up.  Trying to find the person that was out here, or persons, see if we can find some witnesses it's going to be the old detective work from now," said Williams.

Cal Fire says they don't know for sure who set off the fireworks but they are very popular in the valley, and investigator Williams understands why pest control is needed, "All of those grapes are gone, they've been eaten up buy birds or pests," said Williams.

Fire investigators say it's been such a busy wild fire season it will probably take another week to wrap up this Gloria fire investigation.
