An Islamist militant group says it has secured a U.S. embassy residential compound in Tripoli, Libya, according to The Associated Press.

American embassy personnel were evacuated from Libya in July, according to CNN, so the compound would have been empty.

A commander with the group Dawn of Libya told the AP his group took control of the compound last week. An AP reporter who walked through the compound at the group's invitation reported it appeared most equipment hadn't been touched, although a few windows had been broken.
