MARINA, Calif. -

Students who want to zip into town from CSUMB can now do so in a Zipcar, according a university spokesperson.

California State University Monterey Bay and Zipcar, a ride-sharing network, will provide two cars -- a Ford Focus and a Subaru Impreza -- on campus. Starting Tuesday, the car-sharing service will be available to students, faculty and staff aged 18 and older, as well as members of the community over age 21.

According to the university, the Zipcars will be available at an affordable rate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. First year registration for CSUMB members will be $15. After the first year, there will be an annual membership fee of $25. The campus Zipcars can be reserved from an hour to several days. Rates start at $7.50 per hour and $69 per day. Gas, insurance and up to 180 miles of driving per day are included in Zipcar rates.

The cars will have designated parking in two campus lots.
