A woman suffered major injuries when she crashed her car into a traffic light pole after trying to evade officers at a DUI Checkpoint Friday night in Marina.
An officer suspected the woman was intoxicated when she entered the checkpoint on Imjin Highway, according to the Marina Police Department.
The woman was asked to pull over into a screening area after she was unable to provide a Driver’s License.
“Without warning the female accelerated out of the checkpoint and continued past the screening area, eastbound on Imjin Parkway,” according to the press release issued by Marina police this morning.
Officers tried to catch up to the runaway car and soon found it at the intersection of Imjin Parkway and Imjin Road, where it had crashed into a traffic light pole causing it to split in half. The driver was ejected from the vehicle, suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital, according to police
The case is still under investigation.
The Marina Police Department Traffic Bureau set up the DUI checkpoint Friday evening between 7pm and 10pm, screening 314 vehicles. The checkpoint resulted in one DUI arrest. One person was cited for driving on a suspended license and five people received citations for driving without a license.
