UPDATE: 10:49 p.m.: Two men were shot outside a mobile home on Merritt Street. One of them died and the other was seriously hurt. According to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, the two men were related.

A third person was able to escape unhurt.

"The subjects were standing around talking about regular life business, and one of the victims who was not hurt stated that they heard footsteps, turned to see a subject running up on them opening fire. That's when he was able to run and get out of the area," said Matt Luther from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Now, the police are looking for any leads that could help them find a suspect.

"Right now, we are still doing our scans, processing the scene for any evidence. We will be collecting the casings. We are just doing our crime scene breakdown to try to get as much evidence as possible to help with the investigation," Luther said.

This comes just days after a triple shooting on Labor Day in Castroville, where a Fresno man was killed and two others were hurt. But police say there's no evidence of a connection.

"Preliminary stages of investigation, it could change, but nothing here indicates it was a gang issue,” Luther said.

Police are talking to neighbors and witnesses, hoping to get information about who's responsible.
