SALINAS, Calif. -

Salinas police responded to reports of shots fired Friday night on the 1100 block of Cortez Street after a group of people were shot at, police say.

Police say the group was in the front of the house when a man in his 20s walked up to them with a semi-automatic gun in his hand. The suspect then pointed the gun at the crowd, but the gun misfired, according to police.

Police say he then shot again at the crowd, but missed everyone.  Once the group ran into the house, the suspect chased the group into a back room, cornered them and then tried to shoot them again, but once again the gun continued to misfire, according to police.

The suspect then ran out of the house, according to police, and into a white Honda-type car, which fled toward Mae.

Nobody was injured, according to police.
