SALINAS, Calif. -

Employees at Sears Wednesday encountered a suspected thief, who police say pulled a knife on them when they tried to arrest him.

Salinas police said Carl Lemos placed several items from the tools department in his backpack when he first entered the store. He then left the backpack on the ground near the door. Police said Lemos proceeded to select several items of work clothing and paid for those goods at a register. On his way out, the suspect allegedly picked up the backpack.

When loss prevention employees attempted to arrest him, Lemos pulled out a pocket knife. The knife was slapped out of his hand. He was placed under arrest and booked into the Monterey County Jail for robbery.
