SALINAS, Calif. -

Investigators said an officer was in the area of Williams Road and heard approximately 10 gunshots. Calls began coming in of shots fired in the area of Bardin Road and Dennis Avenue.

Police said three males were in the parking lot of the shopping center when they were confronted by two other males who came from a nearby Chevy Malibu. Gunfire was exchanged between the two groups. Fifteen casings were located in the parking lot and two casings were found in the street at Bardin Road and Dennis Avenue.

Authorities said everyone involved fled the scene and at this point there are no report of injuries. One possible bullet strike was found on a home near Bardin and Toro Avenue. The suspect vehicle was described as possibly a dark grey Chevy Malibu, with tinted taillights, and black rims.

"It's a miracle no bystanders were hit on a busy Saturday afternoon on a holiday weekend," said Salinas Police Cmdr. John C. Murray.

ORIGINAL STORY: Gunfire erupted Saturday afternoon outside the city’s Mountain Valley Center at Bardin and Williams roads, police said.

The shooting happened just before 2 p.m. An officer on duty heard shots. Police believe a shootout broke out between the occupants of two cars.

No victims have been reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
