MONTEREY, Calif. -

Police are releasing more information about a stabbing that happened in downtown Monterey on Wednesday evening.

According to police, a 26-year-old woman was stabbed several times with an unknown object. She was taken to the hospital and detectives were told that her injuries were not life threatening.

The stabbing happened in a private parking lot at 519 Hartnell and not the Trader Joe's parking lot as was earlier reported.

Detectives are still investigating this case and believe it was not a random attack. In a news release, Monterey Police said they would not release any more information about the attack.

Witnesses told Central Coast News the suspect barged into an AA meeting and told the victim that he needed to talk to her outside. According to a witness, the victim was attacked when she walked outside.

However, Monterey police said that the the victim was not at the AA meeting and was just inside the same office building.
