Marina High School has made it to the top 50 in the latest round of a national design and art competition sponsored by shoe company Vans.
Vans Custom Culture is an annual art and design competition aimed at fostering creative self-expression in schools and supporting arts educations. This year, more than 2,400 schools across the U.S. put their skills to the test to create four custom designs representing the Vans "Off the Wall" lifestyle.
The final five schools will get to go the finals in New York City in June for a chance to win a grand prize of $50,000 for their school's art program.
Marina High School needs the public's help to win, however. Students, teachers, parents and community members are being asked to vote for the school online at www.vans.com/customculture.
Voting opened Friday, April 25 and continues through May 12
Vans will award $4,000 to the four runners-up. Finalists will also be eligible for a $10,000 ‘Local Attitude’ award, presented by retail partner Journeys to the school that creates the most compelling ‘local flavor’ design.
