Hollister School District Gets Resource Officer
Officer to Begin Work January 13
The Hollister Police Department and the Hollister School District have announced a new School Resource Officer.
Officer Bo Leland will begin work Monday, January 13, 2014.
The Hollister School District Superintendent, Gary McIntire, the Hollister Police Department and Gang Prevention Coordinator, Al De Vos, have been working for the last several months to get a new School Resource Officer position for the district.
The plan was originally part of an attempt to win another Cal-Grip Grant for the area but the grant was awarded to another city.
The group instead reached a partnership between the Hollister School District and the City of Hollister, where both will share the cost of the news resource officer.
The partnership was unanimously passed.
“This is a perfect example of working together to make our community and schools safer, it is a win, win situation. I am excited that our City Council had the vision to take this proactive step for public safety and school safety in our community. ” said Chief David Westrick.
Bo Leland has worked for the Hollister Police Department for over 5 years and previously worked for the Stockton Unified School District Police as a dispatcher and the Stockton Police Department as a Reserve Community Service Officer.
He also works as a volunteer Shot put and Discus coach with the San Benito High School Track Team.
"The schools in the Hollister School District will all benefit from having Officer Leland as the School Resource Officer. Officer Leland will provide an additional layer of safety and security through his knowledge, his very presence and his involvement in school planning and interactions with students and staff. He'll be able to assist us not only with school law enforcement and traffic issues, but also with gang prevention activities, school emergency-response planning, and many other activities that will make our schools even more safe, secure and pleasant," said Gary McIntire, Ed.D. Superintendent
