SOLEDAD, Calif. -

A 34-year-old man was shot multiple times in his car on North Walker Drive Wednesday afternoon in Soledad, prompting the elementary school across the street to go on lock down.

Witnesses reported hearing several shots fired. Gabilan Elementary School was locked down a little after 2 p.m. and reopened around 3 p.m. after a search for the suspects turned up nothing.

The man was transported to a hospital with gunshot wounds to his leg, arm and upper body. Two other passengers were also in the vehicle, a child and a woman. Police said they were the victim's mother and four-year-old niece. The woman suffered injuries to her hand from broken glass. The child wasn't injured.

The gunman is described as a Hispanic male, late teens to early twenties, medium height and 140 lbs. He was last seen wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt and shorts. Witnesses said he was running northbound through Gallardo Park toward Andalucia Drive.
