LOS ANGELES, Calif. -

A convicted sex offender has been charged with posing as an undercover police officer and raping a woman in Torrance.

The Los Angeles Times reports 43-year-old Guy Allen Dietz is accused of attacking the woman at a home on Thursday.

Prosecutors say Dietz presented a badge and handcuffs and claimed to be an undercover police officer.

Dietz escaped to Monterey County, where he is accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase Friday before being apprehended. The incident prompted a lockdown at a parking lot in Soledad for several hours and multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the pursuit. Dietz ditched his car in Soledad and fled on foot but was later apprehended in the city.

The Calabasas resident was free on bail in a separate case in which he was charged with failing to register as a sex offender in connection with a 1998 rape conviction.
