SALINAS, Calif. -

A child is in serious condition Sunday night after Salinas fire officials say she and her mother were hit while in the crosswalk on North Madeira and East Alisal.

Not a lot of information is being released at this time, but fire crews say the child was airlifted to a Bay area trauma center where she remains in serious condition. Her mother was also airlifted out to a local hospital, where she is expected to be OK, according to fire crews.

Fire crews say it was not a hit-and-run and the driver involved stayed on the scene after the wreck.
