SAN JOSE, Calif. -

San Francisco 49er Ray McDonald has been arrested on domestic violence charges. San Jose police say the 29-year-old defensive end was taken into custody early yesterday after officers responded to a home in an upscale neighborhood.

McDonald was jailed on felony domestic violence charges after the NFL just released it's new policy for players arrested for domestic violence cases. Santa Clara County sheriff's Sgt. Kurt Stenderup says McDonald was released after posting bail.

Police were called early  Sunday to Mcdonald's home on a domestic violence call.

Several of Mcdonald's 49er teammates were reportedly at his house at the time of the arrest.

While McDonald has yet to formally respond to the charges, he has reportedly said that the truth will come out and that this is not the man he is.

The National Football League has just instituted a new domestic violence policy.
A first offense results in a six-game unpaid ban, a second offense could result in a lifetime ban from the league.

The 49ers' General Manager has released a statement saying the team is aware of the reports but won't comment further until it gathers all the facts in the case.
