Teen Shot, Mom Says She Knew it Would Happen

Salinas police say that a 15-year-old boy was shot several time in the upper torso. He was flown to a bay area hospital and at this time his condition is unknown.

The shooting took place just after 9 AM. Witnesses say that they heard several shot fired.

"It's very hard. He's the one that's given me the most trouble. I hope my son lives and stays away from all of this," said the victim's mother.

Thursday morning the mother of five, who did not want to be identified, went to work. Hours later, she got a phone call saying someone shot her 15 year old son.

"I've spent a lot of time talking to him and trying to get him out of this but I haven't been able to."

This mother admits her son has been in and out of trouble with the law and just recently got out of juvenile hall. Now she's spending extra time with her other kids to keep them safe and away from gangs.

"I take a lot of care of them so they don't follow my son's footsteps but I worry because of everything that they are seeing."

She says it's hard for parents to take care of their kids, work fulltime jobs, and teach their kids right from wrong.

"A lot of the times we are working and we forget about them. They go out to the street to look for the support and attention we don't give them at home. We need to support them so they get out because otherwise these are the consequences we face."

 Police say that it is still to early to tell if this latest shooting is connected to Wednesdays violence. Two people were killed and one was injured in two separate attacks.
