US Open Parking; More Security Patrolling Lots

Posted: Updated:

SEASIDE, Calif. -Thousands of golf enthusiasts and fans are on their way to the Central Coast to take part in the US Open.  The main issue so far, parking!  Central Coast News found out law enforcement is stepping up their security to help keep you and your car safe.

"Our agencies and neighboring agencies have increased their staffing, just due to the high volume of folks coming into town for this event," said CSUMB Police Commander Earl Lawson.

California State University Monterey Bay Police Commander Earl Lawson gave Central Coast News a look at the main US Open lot.  Hundreds of cars packed this parking lot today, but it will only get more crowded later in the week.

"Vehicles are being led in by traffic control professionals.  Then screening is taking place up on the backside of the parking lot where people can board buses and take them down to the golf course," said Lawson.

There are some serious rules to follow before heading out to the course.  Security placed a sign in front of the screening area to remind folks the items listed are not allowed.  Cell phones, cameras, and camcorders are the biggest items people are forgetting to leave behind.

"What I would recommend to people is to take a look at the back of their ticket and look at the regulation and try to leave those items locked in their vehicles or leave those items at home and that will save them walking up to the screening area and having to go back to their vehicles to put that stuff away," said Lawson.

There are over 100 buses transporting people to and from Pebble Beach all week.  The ride is about 20-25 minutes depending on traffic.
