Salinas Gang Member Arrested After Short Chase

SALINAS, Calif-  Officers with the Violence Suppression Unit arrested a 19 year-old after he and two of his friend allegedly led police on a short car chase.

Around 8:45 PM, a Honda Accord was seen speeding down Boronda Road when officers tried to pull the Honda over near North Davis the driver would not stop and a chase ensued., police say.

The suspect's lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a raised curb at Boronda Road and El Rancho Way. All three male occupants got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

A short distance later, officers were able to catch up to one of the suspects, 19 year-old Julian Chavarria. Police say that he fell to the ground as he was running and was arrested by police. A loaded .38 caliber revolver was recovered in the area where Chavarria had fallen, police say.

The other two suspects, fled into back yards along El Rancho Way.

Chavarria, a known gang member, was booked into the Monterey County Jail for a variety of charges.
