SALINAS, Calif . - In response to a call this week by the White House for Congress to push forward with health care overhaul legislation, members of the Monterey County Tea Party protested Friday against the current bill on a pair of the county's busiest traffic areas.
A pair of flag-waving demonstrations drew car horn honks from drivers; one took place at Salinas' South Main Street and Blanco Road intersection, while a second took place on Window on the Bay in Monterey.
Tea Party members are taking issue with the Democrat-backed bill currently under debate, saying it doesn't truly address national health care needs and creates an excessive amount of bureaucracy.
Jackie Dick, of Pacific Grove, dressed in period colonial attire for the Salinas demonstration. She said membership has grown in recent weeks.
"Most of them have said 'I'm tired of yelling at the television, throwing my remote, stomping up and down," said Dick.
