CAPITOLA, Calif.- If you're planning a trip to Capitola by the Sea, leave your butts at home!
That decision comes from City Council Tuesday night, in a 3-2 vote to approve a new smoking ban in certain areas of the city.
The no smoking rule has already been in place for Capitola Beach, but now it will include parks, City Hall, the wharf, Stockton Bridge, and the Esplanade where businesses, especially restaurants and bars say its hard enough to drum up business in the slow economy, they don't need one more thing to make people spend money somewhere else.
Capitola will join Santa Cruz on the list of recent cities to have smoking bans. There is a 30 day warning period after final approval before tickets are issued.
The Santa Cruz ban took effect Monday. Capitola's won't actually start until after the first of the year.
