Skeletal Remains Found in Santa Cruz

Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif-  Skeletal remains have been found in Santa Cruz near the San Lorenzo Park footbridge.

On March 14 police say that someone walking their dog found the mandible of the skeleton and called police.

Officers canvassing the immediate area did not locate any additional skeletal remains and  requested the aid of cadaver dogs from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office to expand their search.

Yesterday afternoon the dogs located additional skeletal remains on the western side of levee just north of the River Street Bridge, a few blocks from the original skeletal find.

Investigators believe that all of the remains traveled down the river from a more northerly point.

The Santa Cruz Police Department is currently at the scene and are processing it with the aid of forensic anthropologists from the University of California, Santa Cruz and members of the Santa Cruz County Coroner.

Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to contact the Santa Cruz Police Department Investigations Section at (831) 420-5820.
