Meet Our Physicians

James A. Kowalski, M.D.

Dr. Kowalski joined Salinas Valley Imaging in 1976 after completing a residency in general radiology at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois and Presbytarian-St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago. After graduating from St. Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota he went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Illinois. He and his wife live in Salinas and have six children.

Donald A. Catalano, M.D.

Dr. Catalano has been with Salinas Valley Imaging since 1979. As an undergraduate he received his bachelors degree from Pacific Union College. He received his medical degree from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California. Dr. Catalano also completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Loma Linda University. He lives in Monterey with his wife and has four children.

Giles A. Duesdieker, M.D.

Dr. Duesdieker has been a member of Salinas Valley Imaging since 1981. He is a graduate of the California Institute of Technology where he received a degree in physics. He also received a Masters degree in physics from the University of British Columbia. He graduated with his medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco. He completed a diagnostic radiology residency and an ultrasound and computed tomography fellowship from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. He is married and lives in Salinas. He has three children.

Michael E. Basse, M.D.

Dr. Basse joined Salinas Valley Imaging in 1991. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine and his medical degree from Chicago Medical School. Dr. Basse completed his diagnostic radiology residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He also completed an MRI interventional fellowship at St. Mary's Hospital in Long Beach, California. Dr. Basse is married and lives with his wife and child in Salinas.

David A. Staunton, M.D.

Dr. Staunton has been a member of Salinas Valley Imaging since 1991. He has an undergraduate degree from the New College of Sarasota, Florida and a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. He received his medical degree from the St. Louis School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Staunton completed his diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Staunton lives in Salinas with his wife and two children.

Gary E. Falkoff, M.D.

Dr. Falkoff joined Salinas Valley Imaging in 1991. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester in New York and a medical degree from Albany Medical College, also of New York. He received his residency training in radiology at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Falkoff also completed a sectional imaging/interventional fellowship at the University of California in San Diego, California. He is married and lives in Salinas with his two children.

Richard A. Villalobos, M.D.

Dr. Villalobos has been with Salinas Valley Imaging since 2000. He received his undergraduate degree from California State University, Fullerton. Dr. Villalobos completed his medical degree and diagnostic radiology residency from the University of California, Irvine. He also completed a fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of California, Irvine and Memorial Medical Center in Long Beach, California. Dr. Villalobos lives in Salinas with his wife and his three children.

B. Misa Hosohama, M.D.

Dr. Hosohama has been with Salinas Valley Imaging since 2003. She is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles. She received her medical school degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Dr. Hosohama completed a diagnostic radiology residency from Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and an abdominal imaging fellowship from the University of California at Davis.

F. Scott Pereles, M.D.

Dr. Pereles joined Salinas Valley Imaging in 2006 after serving as associate professor of radiology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Pereles completed his diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. He also completed a body imaging fellowship at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital/Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dr. Pereles is married and lives with his wife and three children in Carmel Valley.

Amy Lantis Stemerman, M.D.

Dr. Amy Lantis Stemerman is a Salinas native and director at the Nancy Ausonio Mammography Center . She completed her residency and fellowship training in MRI (body and musculoskeletal) with special emphasis in breast imaging and MRI guided biopsies at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas . Dr. Lantis Stemerman was board certified from the American Board of Radiology in 2006 and completed her fellowship in 2007. Dr. Lantis Stemerman joined Salinas Valley Imaging in 2008.

Temoor Anwar, M.D.

Dr. Anwar joined Salinas Valley Imaging in 2008.  He received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University and his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Dr. Anwar completed his diagnostic radiology residency at State University of New York, Syracuse, NY. He also completed a Vascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Anwar is an active member of the Society of Interventional Radiology and enjoys traveling, hiking and snowboarding.

Richard Rupp, M.D.

Dr. Richard Rupp received his undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Rupp completed his diagnostic radiology residency and musculoskeletal fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Rupp joined Salinas Valley Imaging in 2010.
