Jasmine Viel currently anchors the award-winning evening newscasts on Central Coast News KION-TV and the CW with her husband, Marc Cota-Robles. They have also taken on the roles as evening anchors for the entire Central Coast from Santa Cruz to Santa Barbara, bringing viewers local news coverage in both markets.
But Jasmine has been covering and reporting local news for years. She graduated from San Diego State University magna cum laude in the journalism program. She immediately snatched up a job reporting in Yuma, Arizona at KSWT-TV, the CBS affiliate. From reporting on President George W. Bush’s visit to the border to covering one of the most horrific child murder cases, Jasmine earned several Associated Press awards. She moved up to anchoring the evening newscasts for the Desert Southwest. She finally made the move back into her home state in 2007, getting a reporting job at KION-TV.
After two years working together, Jasmine got engaged to Marc and they became the morning anchor team on KION. It didn’t take long to make the move into the evenings, helping earn a Walter Cronkite award for political coverage, a regional Edward R. Murrow award for continuing coverage and two-time Emmy-Award winner for Best Newscast, Northern California (small market, 2011-2012).
Besides living the news everyday, Jasmine loves to travel, read and be as active as possible!
