Salinas Sees Fourth Homicide, Two In One Day

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif- Police are reporting that another homicide has taken place today. This time in the area of McGowan and John St.

It happened near Los Padres Elementary School. The school was initially placed on lock down but it has since been lifted.

Two cars were driving down John St., both shooting at each other.  One car sped off, the other drove into a random driveway, the driver had multiple gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital.  The passenger was taken into custody for questioning.

Police are looking for a green van that they say was involved in the shooting.

Earlier this morning there was a shooting that resulted in the third homicide for Salinas.

Around 9a.m. a man was shot on Burke St. on the backside of Alisal High School.  The 15-year old was a gang associate who was walking to Alisal High.  Police believe one person was seen running into a black Navigator just after the shooting and drove off toward Garner.

Alisal High School will offer grief counselors in the following days for students, teachers, or anyone in the community.

Last year, Salinas saw only one homicide in January; there have now been four so far this month.
