SEASIDE, Calif. - On Tuesday night, Seaside City Council denied In-n-Out's request for another extension to plan and build a restaurant on Del Monte Avenue in Seaside. That has left a lot of people disappointed.
"I want an In-n-Out burger and you've got one coming in here," says Carrie Ann. "You don't want it. I'd put it in my backyard if they let me."
Ann lives in Carmel Valley and she's very passionate about the restaurant. She's tired of driving to Gilroy and is shocked Seaside may pass up this opportunity.
"We shop and spend our money in Gilroy," says Ann. "We could be doing that here in Seaside and Monterey Bay. It's needed."
However, some council members are losing interest in bringing the fast food chain to the Peninsula.
They think the land on Del Monte Avenue could be used for something else, maybe a hotel.
Another group at the meeting agrees.
"We have plenty of hamburger joints," says Willie Harrell, who lives in Seaside. "We have a McDonalds across the street. We don't need another hamburger joint."
Some council members say a hotel could bring more in more tax revenue and aren't happy In-n-Out wanted another extension to finalize plans for the restaurant so they rejected it.
"The redevelopment agency has spent too much money on this project," says Harrell. "There's going to be a loss. This project needs to be cleaned up."
The mayor said one of the main reasons why the council rejected In-n-Out's request was because of traffic concerns on Del Monte Avenue.
The city said if In-n-Out wants to open a restaurant at another location in Seaside, it will have to submit a new request.
